Say it isn't so! Can you be arrested over credit card debt? Well, I always thought the answer was no. But, it is no longer true. Here is a link to one article among many, AMERICAS NEW DEBTORS PRISON.
The jist of the article is that when people receive a subpoena, they many times simply ignore it. I can attest personally to this being true--as people tell me this is the case in my http://www.americandebtenders.com" target="_blank">credit counseling sessions.
As I have always told people, the worst thing you can do is throw a subpoena away, and just ignore it. Not answering the creditors calls is one thing, but now, throwing away the creditor subpoena is something completely different. When you fail to respond to a subpoena, apparently, a bench warrant can be issued for your arrest. This is not going to help your situation at all. Again, I cannot overstate the number of consumers who call with debt that is three years in default, and they want to know what to do, because they were just served a subpoena. To Late-- for any structured program that would have helped them earlier. Let this be a word to the wise.
