Do you have your dream job? Or, have you started a business and even though it is successful, you find that you are no longer your own person? The reason people start a business or go after that dream job, is usually because they believe it will bring them more freedom. When, in fact what usually winds up happening is they get less freedom, even though they may be making more money.
Does this sound familiar?
As a credit counselor, who specializes in helping to get people out of debt, yes I enjoy what I do, however, if I do not keep doing it the money will dry up. Not to mention that every day I speak to people who are now in debt, because they lost the dream job, or the business has fallen on hard times.
Is their an answer to this conundrum? There is. One of the problems is our own mindset. When we go after the big job, or open the new business, many of us are doing so because we are going after the money, not for the joy of the experience. Then, the measure of our success is how much money we make, or how high we go.
Do you think Mother Teresa suffered with any of this.
Allow me to share a story. A man was a ship owner and shipping was his business. Every day he went to work at the ocean, he saw a man fishing. Finally, one day he approached the man who was rather young and said, shouldn’t you be working so that one day you will be able to be your own man and relax? Just look at me, the man in the shipping business said. I work hard, and keep accumulating more ships, so that one day I will be able to relax. The fisherman answered by saying, but I am already relaxed. Food for thought?
The point is, don’t work for the accumulation of money, the love of money is the root of all evils, but rather if you want to accumulate money do so for the right reasons. How about helping others maybe.
